A pair of green eyes gleams in the dark,

Behind the couch or beneath the mark.

A soft little paw steps out and away,

Too scared of the noise to come out and play.

You walk through the room like a giant of old,

And under the rug is a story untold.

A shiver of fur and a twitch of an ear,

A tiny heart beating a rhythm of fear.

But leave a small space on the edge of the chair,

And sit very still without any care.

A slow little blink from the foot of the bed,

A soft little sigh from a sleepy small head.

Then out in the quiet when no one is near,

A brush of silk tail tells you

love is right here.

The Quiet Stripe

Behind the couch, A patch of gray,

a little cat who likes to stay.

Where heavy boots and voices loom,

like thunder in the quiet room.

Her coat is stitched with painted lines,

A tabby map of dark designs.

With rings of brown and silver-cream,

Woven from a nervous dream.

Two green eyes from underneath

a wooden chair, she dares to breathe.

Watch the giant footsteps pass,

like shadows on the window glass.

A heavy hand, a sudden sound, she melts into the dark background.

A wisp of fur, a hurried dash,

A silent streak, a fading flash.

Yet when the house is fast asleep,

and shadows on the flooring creep,

She comes upon soft velvet feet,

to make her midnight world complete.

She finds your hand, a warm surprise,

and blinks her love through sleepy eyes.

Then softly purrs her hidden heart,

before the morning sun can start.

hiding from the world all day.

Behind the couch, beneath the chair,

they jump and shake if someone's there.

One sunny noon a strange, loud sound,

shakes the quiet, peaceful ground.

A pair of feet walk past their eyes,

Right into the room to their surprise!

The timid sisters look and stare,

then lift their paws and leave their chair.

No more fear, no need to hide—They walk out brave with paws of pride!
