Watt and Ditka

Watt and Ditka are bonded — truly inseparable. Watt is more curious and usually the first to check out new things. Once Ditka sees that things go well with whatever Watt tried, he’ll carefully follow along and give it a try too.

Watt loves toys and is very food motivated. Once he learns that you are the “feeding person” and figures out where you prepare their food, he’ll jump up to watch what you’re getting for them — and sometimes even lets you pet him.

Watt and Ditka are semi-feral, but honestly, I would describe them more as slow starters. They will show you their boundaries, but that doesn’t mean those boundaries stay there forever.

When I first met them, they wouldn’t come out of their carriers until I left the room. By day 3, they started coming out even while I was still there. Now, about a month in, Watt will take a step or two onto my lap for lickable treats, and Ditka has taken his first bite directly from one while I held it for him.

What I’m trying to say is — they are trying. They are doing their best to get to know me, and they communicate very clearly where they are in that process.

So far, they haven’t shown any aggression towards me. At most, if they feel scared, they might give a quiet hiss — no teeth, not threatening, just their way of saying they need space.

They enjoy catnip toys, Blue Wilderness wet food, Prime chicken dry food, Temptations treats, and they are especially obsessed with Catit lickable treats.

What Watt and Ditka needed from me was actually quite simple:

consistency, patience, and time.

They needed me to be predictable.

They needed me to wait for them to come to me.

They needed me to simply exist around them — even if I was just on my phone — so they could observe and feel safe.

And when I did that, things started to change.

They began to look at me with curious eyes.

They would run past me, come closer, sniff my socks, my fingers.

They started eating the food I gave them, then from my hand.

Eventually, they even reached out and gently touched my arm with their paw.

When you witness that kind of progress, you realize — you’ve become someone very special in their world.

Please be the person who gives them a safe, patient, and loving forever home. 🐾
