"Jewels " or "JuJu" as she has affectionately been nicknamed, is a Gem of a puppy just as her name indicates. This 30 lb beauty is 8 months old and the perfect size companion to balance snuggles on the couch, riding in the car, or romps on the trail.
At her foster family's farm, she has learned to leave the chickens and lambs alone, despite the fact they look like a lot of fun to play with. Cats in the house also look fun to play with, but as long as they don't run away "Jewels" is gentle on her invitations to play, and moves on when the cats choose not to engage. If they run the chase is on until they stop, then she will too! Continuing to redirect her interest around cats will be helpful for a lifelong partnership.
"Jewels" is great around other dogs. Big dogs are perfect playmates, and she is so gentle and respectful around small dogs it is heartwarming! She asks them to play but also respects their space. Even her foster family's other cranky dog doesn't bother her, and she blends into a pack with ease.
"Jewels" adores kids, and while very gentle about it, she can also be mouthy. Getting the kids to play with a toy helps keep her mouth busy in play. She knows "sit", "Down", "leave it" and is working on "wait" before going through doorways, and "off" to not jump up when she gets excited. She has the cutest smile where she pulls her lips back in a grin for a second when she's extra happy.
She doesn't bark and is over all a quiet dog, but yips and yowls when she feels lonely or greets you upon coming home.
"Jewels" sleeps beside one of her foster kids beds in a crate. Continuing positive crate experiences will be very helpful for her. She travels well in a crate in the car as well, and enjoys eating her meals in her crate.
Despite still being so young, "Jewels" is not a destructive puppy at all. She likes to steal shoes, but has not chewed any. She loves to chew on raw beef bones instead . She will pull the eyes off stuffies so having pet safe ones for her to play with is a good idea.
"Jewels" is still a pup, and games, training, and lots of romps help her be a quiet cuddle bug in the house who loves to snuggle and be with her people.
Although Jewels loves everything and everyone she meets, and walks beautifully on a leash, city life can feel very overwhelming for her and she will stop and sit down or let out a whimper when she feels overwhelmed. Having another dog to walk with helps her feel more confident, but introducing her to city noise at a slow and steady pace will help her be a brave girl.
Her foster family has adored having her so very much. They know anyone will be lucky to have this joyful sweet girl.
